She played during high school, and even before hitting the beach as a professional. The time she spent at USC was awe-inspiring. When she was a freshman in 2000, her play earned her the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman-of-the-Year honors. Additionally, she was one of the key players to help the Trojans reach the Final Four. Her heart was broken by a personal tragedy during her sophomore year. However, she managed to become an All-American again. Through her last two years in the program she led the Trojans up to the summit of the mountain netting consecutive national championships. In 2003-04, Ross was named as the most successful collegiate female volleyball player in America through The Honda Sports Award. Ross was an international relations student at USC. Margie Ross was never able to see her daughter achieve the heights in beach volleyball. Ross's mother died of breast carcinoma in the year 2001. Ross had just become a second-year student at USC. She has kept her parent close to the heart. Margie has inspired her in her life and on the beaches.
